A quarter of Russians are obese

      Speaking at the Women for a Healthy Society forum, Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko said that the prevalence of obesity in the country among the adult population is 24.6%, Kommersant reports.

      Murashko noted that obesity is especially dangerous for children aged 7-11 years. The proportion of the obese population in this age group is 33%.

      It should be noted that the obesity rate among men is 20.6%, among women — 27.4%. Last fall, Murashko also noted that about 40 million people in Russia suffer from obesity. According to Rosstat, the largest increase in the number of obese people in the summer of 2024 was recorded in the age group of 15-17 years.
