Advertisers may be fined for cooperating with anonymous Telegram channels.
In Russia, fines may be imposed for advertisers who advertise on unregistered telegram channels with an audience exceeding 10,000 subscribers. This was announced by Anton Gorelkin, deputy head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, at a meeting with participants of the Higher School of New Media, RBC reports. According to the MP, fines can also be imposed for reposts of content from such channels.
According to Gorelkin, the main goal of the initiative is to "knock the resource base out of the anonymous sector" and reduce the amount of funding for anonymous telegram channels.
Recall that since November 1, 2024, a law has been in force in Russia that obliges owners of social media pages with an audience of more than 10,000 people to register with Roskomnadzor. This also applies to owners of public channels in messengers, including Telegram. Page owners who have not provided data to the RCN are not allowed to advertise.
On January 1, 2025, a rule came into force obliging owners of social networks to restrict access to blogs whose owners did not provide the regulator with personal information.
