The proposal has already been submitted to the State Commission for Radio Frequencies and will be considered at the next meeting. If approved, Beeline, MegaFon, MTS, and T2 will be able to deploy fifth-generation networks at base stations that were installed before September 1, 2026, under the LTE (4G) standard. This will allow for the launch of 5G in the very near future.
New frequencies in the range of 4.63–4.99 GHz will give operators the opportunity to build high-performance networks and create new services, including for industry.
According to the project, 5G services should appear in cities with a population of over one million by no later than December 31, 2027. Coverage in this range will then be gradually rolled out in the most popular locations of million-plus cities by 2031.
At the same time, starting in 2027, operators will be required to gradually transition to Russian base stations, with the process needing to be completed by the end of 2031. The 5G technology provides higher speeds, lower latency, and increased network capacity. Furthermore, its development is expected to stimulate the production of domestic telecom equipment.
