In the Kirov region, 20 accidents involving moose occurred in a month.
In June, 21 traffic accidents involving wild animals were registered on the roads of the Kirov region. In 20 cases, moose were hit by cars, and one accident involved a wild boar. As a result of the incidents, two people were injured.
Accidents were recorded in the Arbazhsky, Verkhoshizhemsky, Kiknursky, Kotelnichsky, Kumenky, Murashinsky, Nemskiy, Omutninsky, Slobodsky, Tuzhinsky, Shabalinsky, Yuryansky, and Yaran municipal districts.
The ministry reminds drivers that the highest number of traffic accidents involving wild animals occurs from April to September. This is related to the seasonal migration of animals and the dispersal of young animals. Additional danger is posed during nighttime and twilight hours when visibility on the road decreases and animals become more active.
To reduce the risk of collision, motorists are advised to adhere to speed limits and use high beams outside of urban areas when there are no oncoming vehicles. Fog lights can help better control the roadside.
Particular caution should be exercised in areas marked with "Wild Animals" signs, as well as where the forest comes close to the road.
If an animal is near the roadside, drivers are advised not to honk but to slowly pass by or stop.
