Scammers are sending messages to Russians about an allegedly due recalculation for housing and utility services in order to obtain personal data and bank card details. This was reported by a member of the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation for public oversight and working with citizens' appeals, Yevgeny Masharov.
According to him, the criminals pose as employees of utility providers and send messages either personally or in housing chats. They inform about an allegedly due recalculation for water supply, electricity, and other utility services, as reported by "Izvestia."
Under the pretext of processing the recalculation, the fraudsters ask for the last name, first name, patronymic, address, account number, and sometimes even bank card details, explaining this as a necessity to refund a non-existent overpayment.
Masharov urged people not to trust such appeals. According to him, if there are doubts, it is necessary to independently contact the organization using official phone numbers. He also reminded that real utility service employees do not request verification codes, personal data, and do not require urgent actions to be taken.
