A convict from the Kirov colony was granted leave and left.

      According to the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Kirov Region, this type of incentive is provided to convicts for exemplary behavior and conscientious attitude towards work.

      Before departure, the woman underwent mandatory briefing, was issued a certificate, and was informed about the rules of conduct during the leave. She was also reminded of the responsibility for evading the serving of her sentence.

      During her time outside the colony, the convict is under supervision. She must contact the duty officer by phone daily and be at home at the designated time. Institution staff may also check on the leavee at her place of residence.

      The decision to grant such leave is made by the head of the colony. The nature and severity of the crime, the length of the sentence, the personality of the convict, and her behavior are taken into account. Time spent with family is counted towards the overall sentence.

      The Federal Penitentiary Service believes that the opportunity to temporarily visit relatives helps convicts maintain social connections. According to the agency, this can positively influence behavior and reduce the risk of reoffending after release.
