The Kirov administration explained why the storm drains are not coping with heavy rains.
The Kirov administration reported on the work of stormwater drainage systems. The response was prepared following a request from Newsler.ru regarding flooding of city streets during heavy rains.
Thus, on Lenin Street, drainage is directed towards the existing storm sewer networks. They are located in the sections between Pyatnitskaya and Truda Streets, as well as between Albert Likhанов and Herzen Streets. Drainage gutters have been installed at the intersections with Spasskaya and Vorovskogo Streets, and stormwater catch basins are operational on Azina, Blukhiera, and Militsionnaya Streets.
On Moskovskaya Street, the municipal storm sewer networks run from Lomonosova Street to the underground passage at the "Mechta" bus stop, as well as from house No. 165 to Upita Street. Additionally, stormwater catch basins are located at the intersections with Dynamo Passage, Roman Yerdyakov Street, and Solnechnaya Street.
The administration noted that cleaning and flushing of underground networks, as well as repairs of manholes and stormwater catch basins, are carried out regularly, as well as after requests from residents and demands from supervisory authorities.
At the same time, the city hall acknowledged that during heavy rains, the existing system cannot cope with the large volume of water. The reason is the insufficient capacity of the networks during a sharp increase in precipitation.
To change the situation, it is necessary to develop project documentation and construct new sections of storm sewers. When designing new roads and reconstructing existing sections, the need for such networks is now taken into account.
One of the new projects will be Dmitry Kozulev Street and Passage No. 2 in the Leninsky District of Kirov. As part of the construction, a new storm sewer system is planned to be created there.
