People's Artist of Russia Ekaterina Zhemchuzhnaya has passed away.

The "Romén" Theater has confirmed the information about the passing of the People's Artist of Russia, Ekaterina Zhemchuzhnaya. The actress passed away at the age of 83. The date, time, and place of her farewell will be announced soon.

Ekaterina Andreyevna's story in "Romén" began more than half a century ago. In 1964, she joined the troupe at the invitation of the chief director, Semyon Barkan — immediately after graduating from the school-studio at the same theater. The young actress's first roles demonstrated her great creative potential and bright vocal talent.

Colleagues and critics noted that there were no conventional roles for Zhemchuzhnaya. She lived both deep dramatic fates and sharply characterized stage images with equal strength. In every case, she remained convincing and invariably charming — this quality made her performances so vibrant.

The actress is known to the general public not only for her performances but also for her film work. She has over 20 roles in films to her credit. Among them are "Eternal Call," "Carnival," "Gypsy Happiness," "Monti's Czardas," and "Gypsy Aza." This list, as noted by the theater, is far from complete, but even it shows the scale of her cinematic talent.

The theater's message emphasizes that Ekaterina Andreyevna's life path is an example of dedication to art and true love for her work. Behind the titles and awards was always a living person: kind-hearted, attentive to others, empathetic, and, according to contemporaries' memories, an incredibly beautiful woman whom people sincerely wanted to emulate.

"Bright memory, dear Ekaterina Andreyevna!" — says the theater's post.
