Missing spouses from Arbaz found in the bank: pensioners "processed" by fraudsters

Recently, volunteers from the "Lisa Alert" squad reported that an elderly couple aged 75 and 76 went missing from the village of Arbaz on June 25. The searchers added that they might be heading to Kazan and that it is better not to engage them in conversation—it's best to call the squad's "hotline."

Today, July 1, the regional police department revealed what actually happened and how this story ended.

It turned out that a resident of Kirov contacted the police, reporting the disappearance of her elderly parents from Arbaz. According to her, for some time the pensioners had not been in touch, and when attempts were made to call them, they briefly responded that they were fine and hung up.

After some time, police officers found the missing couple in the office of one of the Kirov banks. The spouses were trying to withdraw money from their accounts.

Later, the police discovered that the pensioners had been contacted by scammers. First, they tricked them into providing their passport details, supposedly for an appointment at the Pension Fund. Then they threatened them with criminal liability, claiming that some criminals were about to send the couple's savings to Ukraine.

To avoid responsibility, the pensioners were instructed to "declare" the money they had. Following the instructions of their interlocutors, the couple went to the bank, withdrew 1.36 million rubles from their deposit, and then traveled to Kazan, where they handed the money to a courier. Throughout this time, the scammers maintained contact with them, not leaving them unattended for a moment.

After obtaining the victims' money, the criminals decided to extract the remaining funds from them. They instructed them to go to the bank again and withdraw everything that was left, amounting to 1.3 million rubles. However, bank employees stopped the pensioners and contacted the police. A criminal case was initiated by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Kirov under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud on an especially large scale).
