A maximum X-class flare occurred on the Sun.
According to the IKI RAS laboratory, a high-level X-class flare occurred on the Sun almost exactly at midnight Moscow time — the peak was recorded at 23:50 on June 30. The measured score was X1.1, which is only 10% above the lower limit of the X class.
The explosion did not occur in the largest active region 4478, which continues to remain quiet, but in the neighboring center 4479, located above. As scientists explain, region 4478 is releasing energy to neighboring centers, which cannot handle its volumes.
Despite the moderate strength of the explosion, due to the current position of the active centers almost exactly on the Sun-Earth line, the impact will be noticeable. Modeling shows that the front from the flare will reach the planet as early as tomorrow, between 21:00 and 24:00 Moscow time. A G3 (strong) geomagnetic storm is expected — the most powerful since March of this year. Storms of the higher G4 level are not anticipated, according to forecasts.
