A coordination meeting of law enforcement leaders was held at the Prosecutor's Office of the Kirov Region. The main question on the agenda is how things stand with the prevention and investigation of crimes in the forestry sector. The meeting was chaired by the regional prosecutor Yuri Ryvaev.
The Kirov Region is among the top five subjects in the European part of Russia in terms of timber reserves, so the situation in the forests is not only an ecological issue but also an economic one. At the same time, the planned indicators for reforestation under the federal project "Forest Conservation" in the region are being met at 100%.
This year, there has been a 39% decrease in registered crimes in the field of forest use compared to the same period in 2025. The overwhelming majority are illegal logging incidents. They have been recorded in 10 municipal districts.
A separate discussion is about damage compensation. For criminal cases completed in 2025, this indicator was almost 60%. For cases this year, it is 100%. Confiscation helps: equipment, tools, and vehicles are seized from offenders.
Participants in the meeting also discussed the issue of forest fires. The conversation focused on compliance with fire safety legislation and the responsibility of those whose negligence leads to fires.
Another important block is the lessees of forest plots. Prosecutors file claims for compensation for damage to the forest fund even when those responsible for the logging are not found. From unscrupulous lessees, 13.5 million rubles have been received from such claims for the years 2025-2026. The enforcement of court decisions is being monitored.
As a result of the meeting, a set of measures was developed to improve inter-agency cooperation. All proposals will be taken into account in the exercise of prosecutorial oversight.
