Decree for female students: now instead of a scholarship — a subsistence minimum

      The Social Fund of Russia for the Kirov Region has presented data on the implementation of the new procedure for assigning maternity benefits for students. Since the beginning of 2026, payments have been issued for 48 female students studying in full-time programs.

      The changes came into effect in 2025. Now, female students and postgraduate students in full-time education at universities, colleges, vocational schools, technical schools, organizations of additional professional education, and research organizations receive maternity benefits calculated based on the minimum subsistence level. The form of education—whether budgetary or paid—does not matter.

      As clarified by the press service of the Social Fund of Russia, the amount of the benefit depends on the duration of maternity leave and the region of residence of the recipient.

      To apply for the benefit, a certificate from a medical organization confirming pregnancy and a certificate from the educational institution indicating full-time study and the duration of maternity leave are required.

      Applications can be submitted online through the state services portal or at the client service of the Social Fund. The benefit is paid for the entire period of leave at once.
