Russians are lured by "free gasoline": a new scam has emerged
Car owners in Russia have started to be deceived with fake offers of "free gasoline." Researchers from the F6 company reported on a new scam scheme in a conversation with "Lenta.ru."
The fraudsters create fake websites styled after well-known gas station networks, including those operating in Crimea and other regions. On such pages, users are offered to "book" up to 20 liters of fuel and come at a designated time without queues.
After submitting a request, the person is asked to enter a phone number linked to Telegram, and then a code from a message. In reality, this is not a fuel reservation, but a confirmation code for logging into the messenger. By entering it, the victim effectively hands over access to their account to the fraudsters.
The criminals use current news and the topic of fuel shortages to gain users' trust and prompt them to make a mistake quickly. Experts warn: there are no "fuel reservations through a website" at gas stations. All such activities are phishing attacks aimed at stealing personal data and accounts.
