Kirov Region is among the most dangerous areas for tick activity.

      According to the insurance company "Soglasie" and the INVITRO clinic, the Kirov and Kostroma regions, as well as the Udmurt Republic and Krasnoyarsk Krai, are in a special risk group. This year, 76% of tick bite-related inquiries come from these areas. Experts note that the peak activity of ticks traditionally occurs from April to June, but the danger remains until September. Those at risk include summer residents, gardeners, tourists, hunters, foresters, and anyone who spends a lot of time outdoors. Most often, people aged 40-50 and over 60 seek medical help. According to specialists, most victims remove the tick themselves and then submit it for testing. Comprehensive PCR tests for several infections remain the most in demand. To reduce the likelihood of ticks appearing on the site, experts recommend regularly mowing the grass, getting rid of weeds and shrubs, and not leaving old boards, branches, foliage, and other debris on the territory. Additionally, they advise treating the area and adjacent territory with special insect acaricide agents. Special caution should be exercised not only in the forest but also in neglected areas, along roadsides, near ravines, and in territories bordering forested areas. Specialists remind that the only way to protect against tick-borne encephalitis remains vaccination. The standard scheme includes two vaccinations with an interval of one to seven months, the first revaccination after a year, and subsequent ones every three years. If it was not possible to get vaccinated in advance, an accelerated vaccination schedule can be used. At the same time, doctors emphasize that ticks carry not only encephalitis but also borreliosis, anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, and a number of other diseases for which there are currently no vaccines. Therefore, after a bite, it is important to seek medical help as soon as possible and undergo examination if necessary.
