From Krasnoyarsk to Vyatka: why future biotechnologists are going for internships thousands of kilometers away
In May, students from the Siberian State University of Science and Technology named after Academician M.F. Reshetnev from Krasnoyarsk once again underwent industrial practice at enterprises. This practice has become a long-standing tradition and allows future biotechnologists to get acquainted with real production long before obtaining their diploma.
Unlike regular introductory excursions, practice at enterprises implies full immersion in the production process. Students study technological chains, familiarize themselves with equipment, work alongside specialists, and acquire skills that cannot be gained solely in university classrooms.
According to representatives of the enterprises, during the practice, the students do not just observe the production work from the sidelines but master real working professions, learn to interact with the team, and understand the responsibility that comes with each stage of the technological process.
However, the practice is not limited to production.
During their time at the enterprises, students also participated in landscaping the area. The girls were involved in planting flowers, while the boys helped tidy up the shore of the pond near the factory. Such projects have long become part of the corporate culture of the enterprises, where great attention is paid not only to production indicators but also to the environment.
The interns themselves admit that the trip to Vyatka allowed them to look at the modern biotechnology industry from a new perspective.
"We, the students of SibGU named after Reshetnev, were fortunate to have our practice at the Kirov Biochemical Plant. We want to thank the plant's team for their warm welcome and assistance in our training. We are glad to have become part of this team, even if only for a short time. The Kirov Biochemical Plant not only produces in-demand products but also serves as an example of a stable, developing enterprise. We were very satisfied with the practice we had and hope to return here someday. Special thanks go to the first and third teams, who shared their experience with us," the students shared.
The students also had equally vivid impressions after getting acquainted with the work of LLC "Vostok."
"We, the students of SibGU named after M.F. Reshetnev from Krasnoyarsk, were pleasantly surprised that such a large production not only survived but continues to develop. During the practice, we received a lot of new information about production processes, got to know the work of the enterprise, and saw its prospects. We would like to thank the plant's team for their warm welcome and friendly atmosphere. People work here with whom you want to work and grow. We hope that in the future the plant will reach a new level," the interns shared.
For enterprises, such programs are not only an opportunity to showcase production to young specialists but also a contribution to the development of the entire industry. Biotechnology remains one of the most promising areas of industry today, and the training of qualified personnel is becoming a crucial condition for its further growth.
Perhaps some of today's students will return to the Kirov region in a few years—not for practice, but for permanent work. And then the current acquaintance with production will become the first step in their professional career.
