The damage was compensated, but the equipment was not saved: the Urzhum lumberjack was fined and had his equipment confiscated.
The Prosecutor's Office of the Urzhum District of the Kirov Region supported the prosecution in court against a 57-year-old local resident. The man was found guilty under paragraph "g" of part 2 of article 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (Illegal logging, as well as damage to the extent of stopping the growth of forest plantations or trees, shrubs, and vines not classified as forest plantations, if these actions were committed on a large scale).
As established during the proceedings, in December 2025, on the territory of the Urzhum district forestry, the defendant, using a tractor "MTZ 80L" and a chainsaw, cut down 13 birches and one aspen. The damage to the forest fund of the Russian Federation was estimated at 131 thousand rubles — this is classified as a large scale.
During the court session, the man fully admitted his guilt and compensated for the material damage caused before the sentence was pronounced. The court considered these circumstances as mitigating and, agreeing with the position of the state prosecutor, imposed a penalty in the form of a fine of 70 thousand rubles.
In addition, at the request of the prosecutor, the court applied article 104.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (confiscation of property). The tractor and chainsaw used in the commission of the crime were transferred to state ownership.
