Simakov apologized for the flooded cemetery.

Let us remind you that today, May 12, at a meeting in the government, Governor Alexander Sokolov criticized the head of the Kirov administration, Vyacheslav Simakov, for the flooded Novo-Makaryevskoye cemetery. He ordered to resolve the issue within a day.

Shortly after that, Simakov published a post stating that work on draining water at the cemetery began back in late April when it became clear that water was not draining in some areas. At that time, ditches were dug in the areas with the most problems, and a new pipe was installed for water drainage. Currently, a total of about 200 meters of ditches have been arranged. According to Simakov, water has already receded from most of the previously flooded areas, but in some places, it is still standing. Work is ongoing.

The official added that specialists from the Department of Urban Economy and the Funeral Service discovered a fresh drainage ditch between Kirov and the village of Baramzy in the Slobodsky district, through which a large volume of water was flowing to the cemetery. Work is currently being done with the district leadership to remove it.

In addition, the Department of Urban Economy is considering additional measures that could prevent flooding of the cemetery in case of heavy snowfall in winter. Work will be carried out in the summer.

"On my own behalf and on behalf of the administration, I apologize to everyone who was inconvenienced by what happened," said Simakov. "The graves of loved ones are a place where people come to be close to those who are no longer alive. We all understand this. We will do everything to ensure that this does not happen again."
