Kirov's trace in the British sanctions list: why London "rewarded" a primary participant and Hero of Russia

      Among the 85 new figures is a person whose biography is a direct reminder of whom the anti-Hitler coalition was originally created against.

      “String” in the crosshairs

      Vladislav Golovin, the head of the Main Staff of the “Yunarmiya” movement, Hero of Russia, and an active participant in the preliminary voting of “United Russia,” has been added to the sanctions list. He is registered as a candidate on the party list for the State Duma elections from the Kirov region.

      The formal reason for the restrictions is his involvement in the militarization of youth. However, ironically, Golovin is flesh and blood of the generation that grew up on stories of the heroism of ancestors. A native of Kirov, a graduate of the Ryazan Airborne School, he participated in the battles for Mariupol under the callsign “String” from the first days of the special military operation, was severely wounded, lost a leg, but continued to serve. In the fall of 2022, he received the Golden Star from the President.

      Victory Day and historical emphasis

      The fact that the decision on sanctions was announced immediately after May 9 involuntarily brings to mind the difficult pages of our shared history. Soldiers of the British Empire and Soviet warriors once fought shoulder to shoulder against Nazism. Today, however, London imposes restrictions against a marine officer who personally destroyed the armored vehicles of a Ukrainian brigade banned in Russia, whose tactical insignia refers to the symbolism of the Third Reich. Britain once again pays those who fought against the legacy of Nazism a peculiar “black mark.”

      For the Kirov region itself, Golovin's inclusion in the sanctions list appears more as a sign of recognition and a test of resilience. A young man who has proven himself on the battlefield and transitioned to mentoring now represents the region at the federal political level. Such pressure only emphasizes the course towards raising a strong and responsible generation.

      Senatorial status and the Kirov list

      Golovin is not the first representative of the Vyatka land to appear in sanctions lists. Sanctions have also affected Vyacheslav Timchenko, a representative of the Kirov region in the Federation Council. However, the status of a senator implies a different, broader political weight — and the reaction of foreign states to such figures has become familiar.

      Thus, the list of Kirov politicians marked by unfriendly Western attention has grown. And while for some, being placed under restrictions was the result of years of parliamentary work, for Golovin, it is the result of a combat path and a principled position. Commenting on the update of the British list, one can say this: the Kirov region knows how to raise people who provoke reactions even thousands of kilometers away from the Vyatka forests.
