A Kirov recidivist stole a friend's car, crashed it in an accident, and received a sentence.
The prosecutor's office of the Lenin district of Kirov reported the completion of a criminal case against a 32-year-old local resident. The man was found guilty of a crime under Part 1 of Article 166 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (unlawful appropriation of a vehicle without the intent to steal).
The case materials indicate that the incident occurred at night, from October 25 to 26, 2024. The defendant was in a state of alcohol intoxication in the parking lot near house No. 36 on Borodulina Street. It was there that he unlawfully stole a vehicle of the brand "VAZ 2114," owned by his acquaintance.
The trip ended in an accident. The car thief was involved in a traffic accident, resulting in damage to another vehicle — a "Haval." Both vehicles sustained mechanical damage.
The state prosecutor insisted on a strict punishment, considering the fact that the defendant had previously been convicted of a similar crime. The court agreed with this position. The convicted man was sentenced to 1 year and 3 months of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime correctional colony.
The defendant did not accept the verdict and appealed it in an appellate procedure. However, the higher court dismissed the appeal, leaving the sentence unchanged. The man was taken under convoy and sent to the place of serving his sentence.
