In Kirov, a worm was removed from the eye of a young woman.

      Recently, a young woman visited the infectious disease hospital in Kirov. She reported that at the beginning of April, she felt pain in the area of her right eye, followed by a sensation as if something was crawling under her skin. Then a bruise appeared under her eye. The symptoms were felt in the area of either the upper or lower eyelid. The woman also showed the doctors a video where something was visible moving under the skin of her eyelid.

      The specialists immediately understood that it was dirofilariasis — a parasitic disease caused by the larvae of roundworms of the Dirofilaria species, which enter the human body through mosquito bites. This is already the 21st case of human dirofilariasis infection in the region.

      The infectious disease specialists contacted the surgeons at the emergency hospital, who agreed to remove the parasite and performed the surgery. The difficulty was that the worm was constantly moving; however, the doctors found and extracted it with the help of several incisions. The length of the parasite was three centimeters.
