Schoolchildren in Russia will be taught "spiritual values."

      The Ministry of Education of Russia has announced the introduction of a new school subject — "Spiritual and Moral Culture of Russia." Students in grades 5-7 will begin studying it starting next academic year.

      As reported by the department, the course is aimed at shaping students' worldview based on traditional values. Lessons will discuss patriotism, citizenship, responsibility for the future of the country, as well as issues of faith and service to the Motherland.

      Special educational materials and methodological recommendations will be prepared for teaching the new subject. Classes are expected to be conducted by history teachers, for whom additional professional development courses will be organized.

      In addition, the creation of a unified series of textbooks for the new subject is planned.
