For mushroom picking in Russia, one can be sent to prison.
The chief legal advisor of Roskachestvo, Igor Pozdnyakov, explained that collecting ordinary mushrooms for personal use on forest fund lands is permitted. However, there is a ban in specially protected natural areas — in nature reserves, national parks, and wildlife sanctuaries. Violating this ban can result in a fine of 3,000 to 4,000 rubles.
A separate penalty applies for collecting mushrooms listed in the Red Book. The administrative fine will range from 2,500 to 5,000 rubles.
If it is proven that a person knew the mushroom was listed in the Red Book, criminal liability under Article 260.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation will apply. The maximum sentence is up to four years of imprisonment with a fine of up to one million rubles, as reported by "Lenta.ru."
In spring, special rules may also apply: during a fire hazard regime or emergency situation, visiting the forest and collecting mushrooms is prohibited, and fines can reach 40,000 to 50,000 rubles.
