      Practice in a diplomatic format: translation students from VyatSU visited the Embassy of Brazil in Moscow

      On April 16, translation students from the Faculty of Linguistics at Vyatka State University, along with senior lecturer of the Department of Linguistics and Translation Alexandra Baikova, participated in an introductory tour of the Embassy of the Republic of Brazil in the Russian Federation. The event was held with the assistance of the Representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia in Nizhny Novgorod.

      As part of the visit, a working meeting took place with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Brazil in Russia, Sergio Rodrigues dos Santos. The students, members of the Translation Association "Lingua" – Daria Karavaeva, Sofia Kozlova, Egor Galibin, and Vitaly Medyansky – represented Vyatka State University, providing detailed information about key educational programs, scientific activities, and extracurricular initiatives of the Faculty of Linguistics at VyatSU. During the dialogue, the parties discussed the specifics of international diplomatic activities, formats of cultural interaction, and prospects for academic exchange between Russian and Brazilian universities. The trip had a distinctly practice-oriented focus. Its main goal was to integrate theoretical language and translation competencies into a real professional environment.

      VyatSU students had the opportunity to:

      - Practice intercultural communication skills and business etiquette in a diplomatic context;

      - Familiarize themselves with the organizational structure of the Embassy and the protocol for receiving official delegations;

      - Assess the demand for linguistic specialties in the field of international relations, public diplomacy, and academic partnership;

      - Expand their professional horizons and determine vectors for further career development.

      "The visit to the Embassy of Brazil turned out to be incredibly rich and productive. Our main task was to present the university, engage in a lively dialogue with the ambassador, and receive answers to professional questions. The most memorable moment was the personal conversation with the head of the diplomatic mission: it was particularly valuable that a high-ranking diplomat established an open, trusting, and completely informal dialogue. In addition to the official program, we were able to see the internal structure of the Embassy, learn about the nuances of diplomatic protocol, and as a pleasant addition, try real Brazilian coffee and national desserts. Such practices truly expand professional horizons. We returned to Kirov inspired, with new knowledge and deep respect for Brazilian culture and the art of diplomacy," shared the impressions of the student participants in the project.

      "Such events are a wonderful opportunity for students to see the advantages of being able to 'speak the same language' with representatives of other countries and professions. Our students impeccably represented Vyatka State University, earning high praise from both Ambassador Sergio Rodrigues dos Santos and curators from the Representation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. This visit once again confirmed that the Faculty of Linguistics at VyatSU prepares specialists who will be in demand not only as translators and foreign language teachers but also in other fields, including diplomacy," noted senior lecturer of the Department of Linguistics and Translation Alexandra Baikova. Vyatka State University continues its systematic work on integrating linguistics students into a real professional environment. Visits to diplomatic missions will become a regular format for field practices, and the established contacts will serve as the basis for new academic exchange projects.
