In Kirov, a pest was found in mandarins from Morocco.
According to the agency, on April 14, an inspection was conducted at one of the wholesale fruit and vegetable bases in the city, where 2.35 tons of fresh mandarins from the Leningrad region were received. As a result of laboratory tests, specialists from the Kirov branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "VNIIKR" identified the presence of a pest - the red palm scale in a viable state.
Despite the discovery of the quarantine object, the product was not withdrawn. The Rosselkhoznadzor explained that the main way the pest spreads is through planting material, not through the fruits. Therefore, mandarins are allowed to be sold in the region.
At the same time, residents are advised to thoroughly wash fruits with warm water before consumption.
It should be added that since the beginning of 2026, this is already the fourth case of the red palm scale being detected in the Kirov region. In total, the pest has been found in 25.37 tons of fruit.
