270 hectares of forest "disappeared" 30 years ago
Employees of the Kirov Interdistrict Environmental Prosecutor's Office discovered a legal case during a scheduled inspection that has been ongoing since the early 1990s. Two large plots of forest land in the Malmyzh municipal district, covering over 270 hectares, have effectively fallen out of the legal framework.
As the inspectors found out, it all started in 1992. At that time, during the transfer of property from a later bankrupt collective farm, the forest lands covered with green plantations were unjustifiably no longer considered state property. Later, after the agricultural enterprise ceased to exist, the disputed territories were given the status of "reserve lands," although by law they should have been listed as part of the Malmyzh forestry.
The prosecutor's office disagreed with this situation. The supervisory agency prepared and submitted a lawsuit to the court demanding to change the category of these plots and obligate their return to the ownership of the Russian Federation.
Once the court decision comes into legal force, the environmental prosecutor's office will take control of the actual return of the forest lands. Now, more than 270 hectares will once again become part of the country's forest fund.
