The debts of Russians have reached 45 trillion rubles.
Such statistics are provided by RIA Novosti as of January 1, 2026.
The quarterly increase amounted to 2.2% — almost 1 trillion rubles.
In the structure of debt, almost half (48.1%) is accounted for by mortgages — this is 21.7 trillion rubles. Another 29.7% (13.4 trillion) are consumer loans, while auto loans account for 6.8% (3 trillion rubles). The rest consists of interest, microfinance loans, and other obligations.
At the same time, limits on new credit cards, on the contrary, are decreasing. According to the National Bureau of Credit Histories, in January 2026, the average limit size decreased by 7.6% year-on-year — to 98.8 thousand rubles.
