The Kirov region ended up at the bottom of the salary ranking in the provinces of Russia.
According to a study by RIA Novosti, the Kirov region found itself at the bottom of the ranking of regions by salary levels in the provinces. The region ranked 69th out of 82 possible positions. In 2025, the average salary in small and medium-sized settlements of the Kirov region was 53,700 rubles. At the same time, its purchasing power—the ratio to the cost of a fixed set of goods and services—reached 2.37. For comparison, the national average for this indicator is 2.8. Traditionally, the northern regions topped the rankings. In the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, this indicator reaches 5.56, while the average salary is around 151,000 rubles. In the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Magadan region, incomes also exceed 150,000 rubles, and purchasing power is more than twice as high as in the Kirov region. Experts explain this difference by industry specifics. In northern regions, the extraction of natural resources and the rotational work method play a significant role, ensuring a high level of income even in small settlements. Despite the low positions, there is a positive trend in the Kirov region. In 2025, salaries in the province grew by 15.1%. This is higher than the national average growth rate, which was 13.5%. Overall, income growth was recorded in all regions of the country and outpaced inflation. However, the gap between large cities and small settlements remains. In small and medium-sized settlements, salaries amount to 74.8% of the level in large cities. Experts note that in 2025, salaries grew in all regions, but the gap between subjects remains significant. The lag in the provinces is particularly noticeable, where incomes are traditionally lower than in large cities and industrial centers.
