Adult males are the first to emerge: bears have started to wake up in the Kirov forests.
The Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kirov region reported that in our region, bears emerge from hibernation at the end of March to early April. One of the main factors influencing the bear's emergence from hibernation is the air temperature: when the air temperature is above +5 degrees, the activity of processes in the bears' bodies increases, leading to a gradual awakening from sleep. The increase in daylight also stimulates the bear's body and activates metabolic processes, aiding in the emergence from winter hibernation.
The Ministry of Natural Resources of the region stated that adult males emerge from hibernation earlier than young bears, as well as females with cubs—they wake up later and leave the den later.
"In the first days after emerging from the den, a bear may be weak and disoriented—it takes time for it to regain muscle mass and coordination. During the first weeks, bears are not very active and remain near the den, occasionally venturing out in search of food," the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Kirov region reported.
