According to the transport police, a man was detained after a check on the Vyatka River in the Soviet district. It was established that during the prohibited period for catching sturgeon — from November 1 to April 14 — he was fishing using illegal methods.
According to the investigation, the resident of Kirov moved away from the shore, cut a hole in the ice, and with the help of a "gaff," caught a sturgeon. The damage to the region's natural resources was estimated at more than 45 thousand rubles. The fishing gear and catch were seized.
A criminal case has been initiated under the article on illegal extraction of aquatic biological resources. The man now faces up to two years in prison.
