Kirov Region is among the anti-leaders in diabetes.
At an extended meeting of the Rospotrebnadzor board, Tatyana Golikova stated that the current indicators of diabetes prevalence raise "serious concern." According to her, the disease is rapidly gaining momentum, and the main reason lies in the eating habits of Russians — in the types of products and the volumes they consume, reports the newspaper "Kommersant."
According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently more than 6 million adults and about 65,000 children living with a diagnosis of "diabetes" in Russia. However, the statistics are uneven: the disease is most often detected in the Republic of Karelia, Ivanovo, and Kirov regions. The presence of the Kirov region on this list raises additional questions for regional authorities and medical professionals regarding prevention and early diagnosis.
The situation in Russia is developing against the backdrop of a global trend. According to WHO data, over the past few decades, the number of adults with diabetes worldwide has exceeded 800 million people, increasing more than fourfold since 1990. Experts agree: without systemic changes in approaches to nutrition and health monitoring, the burden on the healthcare system will continue to grow.
