Kirov residents began to fall ill en masse after the holidays.
As of the third week of 2026, the level of ARVI incidence in the Kirov region is in line with the season. At the same time, the weekly epidemic threshold was slightly exceeded among the general population, the regional office of Rospotrebnadzor reported.
Laboratory studies showed that both influenza viruses and other ARVI pathogens are circulating in the region. Among influenza strains, A(H3N2) (the Hong Kong flu) still predominates. Nearly 95% of those who contracted influenza were unvaccinated residents of the region.
Experts link the increase in incidence to people returning to work and study after the New Year holidays and school vacations. This situation is characteristic not only of the Kirov region but of the entire country.
Rospotrebnadzor reminds people of preventive measures. Vaccination remains the most reliable way to protect against influenza — especially for the elderly, children, and those with chronic illnesses.
Residents are also advised to wash their hands more often, ventilate premises, perform regular damp cleaning, avoid crowded places, spend more time outdoors, get enough sleep, and eat properly. At the first signs of illness it is better to stay home and consult a doctor rather than self-medicate.
