Kirov road crews switched to sand due to a cold snap.
As reported by the city administration, contractors have switched from halite to a sand-and-salt mixture, which is considered more effective in freezing temperatures.
On the night of January 21–22, 199 pieces of equipment and 70 workers were operating on the roads and sidewalks, according to the mayor’s office. During that time, 86 tons of sand-and-salt mixture and 41 tons of halite were spread, and more than 17,000 cubic meters of snow were removed.
Special attention, the Directorate of Public Improvement clarifies, is being paid to slopes and inclines, pull-in bays, stops and the approaches to pedestrian crossings.
During the day, 84 vehicles and 89 workers are deployed on the city’s streets. Maintenance of the street and road network continues around the clock.
