Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani has died.

      In Italy, 93-year-old designer and founder of the Valentino fashion house Valentino Garavani has died. This was reported by RIA Novosti citing the Skytg24 television channel.

      Garavani, whose career spanned nearly half a century, died at his Roman residence surrounded by close ones. A farewell will be held on Wednesday and Thursday at the Valentino boutique and cultural center on Rome’s Piazza di Spagna. The funeral will take place on Friday at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri on the Piazza della Repubblica.

      Valentino Garavani was born in 1932 in the town of Voghera in the Lombardy region. He studied fashion in France, worked and apprenticed in Paris, then returned to Italy. In 1960, together with Giancarlo Giammetti, he founded his fashion house in Rome. In subsequent years Valentino became one of the most recognizable high-fashion brands. For decades Garavani dressed celebrities, first ladies of various countries, and members of royal families. In September 2007 he announced that he had decided to leave the fashion world.
