Kirov allowed the sale of mandarins with harmful organisms.

In Kirov, during an inspection of a consignment of mandarins, specialists from Rosselkhoznadzor detected a quarantine pest. The consignment involved 4.75 tonnes of fruit that had arrived at a wholesale fruit and vegetable base from Leningrad Oblast. The mandarins themselves were grown in Morocco.

During the inspection, experts discovered the red orange scale — a harmful insect that can spread with planting material. The specialists clarified that the infested fruit do not pose a serious danger to people.

The consignment of mandarins was allowed to be sold within Kirov Oblast. Before consumption, consumers are advised to wash the fruit thoroughly with warm water.

It is noted that since the beginning of 2026 this is the first case of a scale insect being detected in fruit in the region. No such findings were recorded in the same period last year.
