Over the course of a week, scammers stole more than 15 million rubles from Kirov residents.

According to the prosecutor’s office, since the beginning of 2026, 66 people have suffered from fraud using the internet, phones and messaging apps. In just one week scammers stole 15.2 million rubles from residents of the region. By comparison, total losses for the entire 2025 exceeded 1.3 billion rubles.

Most often the perpetrators posed as employees of the prosecutor’s office, the FSB, the tax service, the Central Bank, the Gosuslugi portal, Russian Post and the power utility. They called, wrote in messengers, sent forged documents and sometimes even used couriers to collect the money.

One of the most common schemes is pseudo-investments. Victims are persuaded that they are supposedly participating in stock trading, after which they are asked to install special applications. These programs give scammers remote access to the phone and bank accounts.

The Prosecutor’s Office of the Kirov Region has already filed 38 lawsuits in 2026 to recover funds from “droppers” — those who help scammers carry out their schemes. Citizens are advised to be vigilant and not to trust suspicious messages and calls, especially those related to investments and requests to install apps on their phones.
