The State Duma expands benefits for the close relatives of participants in the special military operation.

Previously, such privileges were enjoyed directly by military personnel participating in combat operations and their children. Now, the spouses of service members who lost a husband or wife in the line of duty will also be able to apply for free education at universities in bachelor's and specialist programs, as well as at secondary educational institutions.

According to the draft law, widows and widowers of service members will gain the right to study for free under separate educational quotas established by state authorities. The bill was drafted by a group of deputies of the State Duma and has been submitted to parliament for discussion.

The document establishes specific amendments to the Federal Law "On Education in the Russian Federation", supplementing the existing legal norms with a provision recognizing the right of "widows and widowers" of participants in the special operation.
