Grapes vs. Aging: Chinese Scientists Test a New Drug to Fight Aging.

A statement by developers about the potential ability to substantially increase human lifespan has already sparked debate in the scientific community. An expert in gerontology reacted to such forecasts with caution.

"Any claim that any drug could guarantee an increase in lifespan to 150 years is, at present, only an opinion not supported by a sufficient body of scientific evidence," transsibinfo.com quotes Mikhail Bolkov, Candidate of Medical Sciences and a research fellow at the Institute for the Study of Aging of the RGNKC at Pirogov University.

According to the expert, the compound from grape seeds is interesting from a scientific point of view: in small doses it can inhibit certain inflammatory mechanisms, while at high concentrations it demonstrates the ability to selectively destroy senescent cells.

As natural examples of anti‑aging phenomena, Bolkov cited unique biological occurrences. Some species of jellyfish can revert their cells to a juvenile state, essentially restarting their life cycle. Among mammals, the naked mole‑rat stands out, which for decades shows no external signs of aging, and tardigrades possess a phenomenal DNA repair system that allows them to survive even in space.

The topic of radically extending lifespan goes beyond pure science and is increasingly becoming the subject of public and governmental debate. Earlier, at the AI Journey‑2025 conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking about the future, also mentioned the possibility of people reaching the 150‑year milestone. He stressed that what matters is not only longevity but also the quality and meaningfulness of life, grounded in traditional values.

Thus, while a "pill for aging" remains a goal for future research, scientific inquiry in this area is gaining momentum, bringing together the efforts of biologists, gerontologists and politicians.
