Two Kirov productions have been nominated for the Golden Mask for the first time.
For the first time in the region's history, a production from the A.N. Afanasyev Kirov Puppet Theatre has been included among the contenders. The production "Yastrebok" (6+), based on the play by Irina and Yan Zlatopolskikh and staged by director Oleg Labozin and production designer Svetlana Strukova, was presented to audiences in 2024. The play has been staged in Russian theatres since 1985, but it is the Kirov version that has, for the first time, brought the work a nomination for the country's main theatre award. Another Kirov contender is the Theatre on Spasskaya's production "Ginger. Honest. In Love." (6+), staged by director Kirill Zaborikhin. The Golden Mask awards ceremony will be held in June 2026.
