Kirov residents are stockpiling vacation days: one in ten has more than 28 unused days.
Many workers in Kirov fail to fully use their allotted annual leave. Although under Article 123 of the Labor Code vacation schedules for the next year must be approved no later than two weeks before the start of the new calendar year, in practice the scheduling of turns begins much earlier — and it is already clear that a significant portion of residents will again enter January with substantial remaining vacation days.
According to a survey, only 35% of working Kirov residents will fully use their leave by the end of 2025. Fifty-six percent will have unused days, and 11% will accumulate more than 28 — these are those who systematically fail to take time off.
Men hoard leave more often: 14% of them will have a reserve of more than four weeks of leave by December, compared with 8% among women. Kirov residents older than 45 are noticeably more likely either to diligently take their entire leave, or, conversely, to accumulate more than a month of unused days — in both groups their share is higher than among young people.
Notably, among people with secondary vocational education there are more who fully use their leave (40% versus 31% among workers with higher education), as well as more who will accumulate more than 28 days (13% versus 9%).
In addition, the higher the salary, the shorter the vacation in practice. Among respondents with salaries of 150,000 rubles or more, only 20% will manage to take all their days, while as many as 25% will accumulate 28+ days.
Employers facing staff shortages have become more lenient toward unused leave. Only 18% of companies still require employees to take all their allotted days.
