Ice rink in exchange for a road: Kirov residents complain about the 'beaten-up' road to School No. 74

Activists of the People's Front reported that the roughly 500-meter road along Vladimir Melanynin Street is the only convenient route for schoolchildren, parents with children, and elderly people heading to the hospital, pharmacies and shops. The road, previously "repaired" with gravel, has again been seriously damaged because of the heavy machinery used to build the rink. The ruts are so deep that they make it difficult even for passenger cars to pass.

Local residents complained to the city administration.

"They graded the road, but it only helped for a few hours. People are asking that concrete slabs be laid next to the construction site to allow passage. They also want the contractor to set up a wheel-washing station, because heavy trucks bring mud onto the roadway," the activists said.

The head of the regional branch of the All‑Russian People's Front, Valeria Cheremisinova, said the situation requires immediate intervention. The organization appealed to the prosecutor's office, demanding oversight of the road's condition and the establishment of a wheel-washing station. Cheremisinova added that the district administration is obliged to monitor compliance with sanitary standards and to prevent the adjacent area from being contaminated by construction mud.

It should be noted that the project to build a multifunctional sports complex (an indoor rink with artificial ice) began in 2023. It was initially estimated that construction would cost 146 million rubles, with the majority of funding coming from the federal budget. However, it soon became clear that expenses would far exceed the planned amounts. Details about this are in our article.
