Sales of food products in Russia fell by 5%.

      According to data from the Taxcom service, which the newspaper Kommersant reviewed, sales of staple goods in volume terms fell by an average of 5% compared with the same period last year.

      The decline affected virtually all categories of everyday food products. Thus, milk sales fell by 8%, rice by 10%, buckwheat by 9%, and pork also by 9%. However, in monetary terms the drop was considerably smaller — only 1%, which indicates rising prices.

      Some categories, by contrast, showed revenue growth: for example, sales of cottage cheese and fish in ruble terms increased by 15% and 16% respectively, while milk, bread and chicken rose by 4–9%.
