The State Duma proposed imposing a limit on the number of children per class.
The corresponding draft bill has been submitted to the State Duma, reports Gazeta.Ru.
According to the document, it is proposed to establish a standard for class size and to provide additional payments to teachers for each student beyond the established limit. The amount of such payments may start at one thousand rubles per child.
Currently there are no direct limits on the number of students in a single class — only sanitary requirements apply, which set a minimum area of 2.5 square meters per pupil.
The authors of the initiative believe that the law will help reduce the workload on teachers, make the profession more attractive and improve the quality of education. If the bill is adopted, it will become the first legislative act to directly regulate the number of students in Russian schools.
