A state of emergency was declared in 19 districts of Kirov Oblast due to crop failures.

A state of emergency has been declared in Kirov Oblast due to adverse weather conditions affecting crop production. The decision was made at a meeting of the commission for the prevention and elimination of emergency situations and ensuring the region’s fire safety chaired by Governor Alexander Sokolov.

As the regional head noted, the spring sowing campaign proceeded without disruptions, but August and September were rainy, which seriously complicated the harvest.

"All of August and part of September the region experienced prolonged rains. As a result, our agricultural producers encountered difficulties related to harvesting," Alexander Sokolov said.

According to the region’s Minister of Agriculture and Food, Alexander Kiselev, heavy downpours in late August and early September led to soil over-saturation and lodging of grain crops. Because of this, part of the harvest fell or sprouted right in the field, reducing the quality of the grain. In addition, machinery could not work effectively on waterlogged plots.

In 2025, 26 agricultural producers in the region insured their crops against natural emergencies. Payments under the contracts will begin after the state of emergency is officially declared.

The governor supported the commission’s decision and instructed the relevant departments to prepare the necessary documents for the introduction of a regional state of emergency.
