A resident of Tuzhinsky District was convicted of possession of wild-growing cannabis.

The Kirov Region Prosecutor’s Office reports that a 40-year-old local resident in the Tuzhinsky District has been sentenced. The man was found guilty under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — illegal acquisition and possession of narcotic drugs in a large amount. According to the investigation, in September 2024 he harvested wild cannabis in the village. He kept more than 330 grams of the plant at his home until it was discovered by law enforcement officers. Taking into account previous convictions, the court sentenced the man to 3 years and 2 months’ imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony. The prosecutor’s office clarified that in the first half of 2025 alone the region’s state prosecutors supported the prosecution in 117 criminal cases related to illegal drug trafficking. One hundred and twenty-seven people stood trial, five of them minors. In a number of cases the court ordered the defendants to undergo treatment for drug addiction, and property was also confiscated.
