Every third resident of Kirov believes that children should be born to married parents.

Today 28% of Kirov residents believe that getting married is not necessary to have a child. Another 33% call it desirable but not mandatory, while 37% are convinced that one cannot do without an official marriage. These are the results of a SuperJob survey among the economically active residents of the city.

Overall, the share of men and women who consider marriage mandatory is roughly even — 39% of men versus 35% of women. However, women more often choose the compromise "desirable but not necessary" (37% versus 30% of men). Meanwhile, the view that marriage is entirely unnecessary is more often supported by men — 32% versus 25% of women.

Marital status and having children affect the views of men and women differently. Married men and fathers insist on the necessity of marriage significantly more often than single and childless men. Among women, the picture is different: married women more often choose the "desirable but not necessary" option (39% versus 27% of unmarried women).

Education also influences attitudes toward marriage. Among men with secondary vocational education, only 20% consider it mandatory, whereas among those with higher education — 35%. For women the trend is the opposite: supporters of mandatory marriage are fewer among those with higher education (33% versus 37% among women with secondary vocational education).

Differences are also noticeable across age groups. Thus, among women under 35, 43% are in favor of marriage being mandatory, while among those 45 and older — only 26%. Half of older women (53%) consider marriage more desirable than mandatory.

Interestingly, income level affects men's and women's opinions differently. Men earning 100,000 rubles a month or more are more likely than others to support mandatory marriage. Among women with the same income level, there are the most who are sure that getting married is not necessary to have a child.
