Could "Fankom" be stripped of their Russian Cup victory?
On Wednesday, September 24, Kirov’s Fankom beat Ufa — a First League club — on penalties in the fourth round of the regional path of the Russian Cup. The result was sensational — for the first time in the tournament’s history an amateur team has gone this far. But Fankom’s joy was short-lived. Today information emerged that Artem Fedchuk had taken the field in the match against Ufa and that he was allegedly suspended and not allowed to participate in the Cup. Later, the Russian Football Union’s Department for Media Communications clarified that information about the suspension had been published on the RFU’s official website as early as April 11 and had been communicated to the player. The head of the RFU’s Control and Disciplinary Committee, Artur Grigoryants, outlined possible developments. According to him, if the committee receives a protest from Ufa or from the RFU (as the organization running the tournament) within 72 hours, it will be considered at the next meeting.
