Timber carrying the black longhorn beetle was not allowed to go from Kirov to Mari El.
Recently, employees of the Rosselkhoznadzor office for the Kirov Region, during an inspection of 65 cubic meters of coniferous timber, discovered wood damage characteristic of dangerous pests of the genus Monochamus. The agency noted that this consignment was intended for shipment to the Republic of Mari El.
"Laboratory analysis confirmed the cargo was infested with quarantine pests: the selected samples contained quarantine organisms — the large black spruce longhorn beetle and the small black spruce longhorn beetle. All larvae were found to be viable," the Rosselkhoznadzor office reported.
For violating the rules on storage and handling of quarantine-regulated products, the owner of the cargo was issued an order to rectify the violations: the infested timber must be chemically disinfected.
As the Rosselkhoznadzor office noted, from January 1 to September 17 of this year the office detected 142 cases of quarantine harmful organisms in 4,499 cubic meters of timber intended for shipment to Nizhny Novgorod and Vologda oblasts, as well as to the Republic of Mari El.
