Zhorik the donkey from the war zone has found a new home at the zoo.
Zhorik accompanied the soldiers in their daily life and even helped carry shells, becoming a true friend to the troops. However, when the unit was redeployed it was impossible to take him with them. Then Irina Eliferova, deputy head of the Moscow executive committee of the United Russia party, intervened on the animal’s behalf. At that moment Svetlana Akulova, general director of the Moscow Zoo, responded.
A separate vehicle loaded with hay was prepared for the transport; the journey went smoothly and without anesthesia. At the zoo’s branch in Veliky Ustyug, veterinarians met Zhorik and conducted an initial examination. The little donkey is now in quarantine and is gradually adjusting to the new conditions. Akulova added that after he adapts and undergoes examinations, they plan to move him to Moscow, where Zhorik can become a favorite of visitors.
It is worth noting that there is also an interesting “donkey” story in Kirov: on a popular classifieds site a local resident listed a six-year-old domestic donkey for sale for 70,000 rubles. According to the owner, the animal is healthy, vaccinated, and registered with veterinary services. A saddle comes with the purchase as a gift — it will not be sold separately. The owner explained the reason for the sale simply: the donkey is lonely and has become bored. Read more here.
