In the Kirov region, the educational program "Diabetes School" has been operating for more than 20 years, created for children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes. Classes are conducted by specialists from the regional children's hospital.
The program's main goal is to teach proper nutrition, blood sugar monitoring, medication administration, and complication prevention. Materials are selected so that children and parents can easily absorb the information.
Currently, 556 patients with type 1 diabetes are registered in the region. All children and adolescents are under continuous medical supervision and regularly receive recommendations.
After discharge from the hospital, classes continue at polyclinics. In summer, the children go to a country camp where they are under the supervision of doctors and volunteers and learn skills for living with the disease.
