A man in Unya was convicted of beating his wife and attacking an acquaintance with a knife.

      The Kirov Region Prosecutor’s Office reported that a man previously convicted of battery has again been found guilty of crimes against his wife and an acquaintance. In March 2024, while intoxicated, he beat his wife, causing bruises. In April, also under the influence of alcohol, he attacked a friend with a knife and threatened to kill him. The victim sustained cut wounds classified as minor bodily harm. The defendant admitted his guilt, paid compensation to the victim and reimbursed the damage. However, the court sentenced him to eight months’ imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony. The convicted man tried to appeal the sentence, claiming it was excessively harsh, but the appellate court left the decision unchanged. The man has already been transferred to the colony under escort.
